Uzm. Psikolog Damla IÅžIK BARRY

About Me

After graduating from TED Ankara College Foundation Schools, I studied at Bilkent University, Department of Psychology. Afterwards, I completed my master's degree in Developmental Psychology at the University of Dundee, Scotland. After working at TED Ankara College Foundation Private Primary School for about 6 years, I started working as a part-time lecturer at Bilkent University Psychology Department. I taught "Cognitive Psychology", "Introduction to Psychology: Developmental and Social Psychology", "Social Psychology", "Introduction to Psychology" and "Child and Adolescent Psychopathology".
I also worked at Uğur Schools Batıkent Campus Psychological Counselling Unit. I was also the Regional Supervisor (Preschool and Primary School Psychological Counseling and Guidance Unit) of Uğur Schools' branches in Central Anatolia and Black Sea regions.
Currently, I continue my psychotherapy work and other freelance projects in the field. I have EABCT (European Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies) approved Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapist certificate.
I work as a psychotherapist in the office of psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Selçuk Aslan and general surgeon Prof. Dr. Oktay Banlı as a freelance therapist. I completed both Adult and Child&Adolescent Therapy trainings in the field of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and continue my supervisions. I also continue to receive training in different therapy schools (Schema Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Metacognitive Therapy etc.). My areas of practice are Child&Adolescent and Adult Psychotherapy, Eating Disorders and Psychological Support after Obesity Surgery (Gastric Sleeve Gastrectomy, Gastric Bypass) and Marriage & Family Counseling.
In addition to providing supervision to school psychological counsellors, special seminars/workshops can be prepared for schools. Seminars on time planning, developmental processes of children, stress management, etc. can be organized for various institutions.

Rules for Psychotherapy
01
-
Session duration is 50 minutes. When clients are late for the session, the 50 minute time is not extended.
-
When the psychologist is late for the session, the full 50 minute session will be completed.
-
Clients can cancel the appointment a day before the session. Last minute cancellations are not accepted.
-
Confirmation is received one day before the appointment. These confirmation messages must be responded by the client. If the client does not respond by 17.30 on the day the confirmation message is sent, the session is automatically canceled.
-
The fee is paid each session.
03
-
You should not attend to therapy sessions under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. You must not have consumed alcohol and/or drugs in the last 24 hours; because alcohol and substances are eliminated from the body after 24 hours.
-
Confidentiality is an important issue in psychotherapy process. In face-to-face or online sessions, audio or video recordings cannot be taken by the psychologist or the client.
-
The information provided by the client during the sessions are kept confidential within the framework of ethical rules. If there is a possibility that the client may harm him/herself or those around him/her, the "emergency contact person" whom is given/approved by the client are called. Otherwise, emergency aid agencies can be called by the psychotherapist.
02
-
Online Therapy has the same rules, methods and fees as face-to-face psychotherapy meetings. Before getting an online therapy appointment, please get in touch with the psychologist and find out whether the issue you want to consult is suitable for online therapy.
-
The online therapy sessions can be ended by the psychologist; if a point is reached that is not suitable for the online therapy process (ex: face-to-face sessions can be more suitable later in the therapy; some unsuitable behaviors are observed which will threaten the therapy boundaries etc.)
-
During online sessions, clients should be in a quiet place and be alone in the room. When it is noticed that the client is in an inappropriate environment, the session is cancelled and another time is going to be planned.
-
For online sessions, the session fee is paid before the appointment.
04
-
During meetings with children under the age of 18 and adolescents, the family is informed about the process; but this is again done with the consent of the client.
-
Sessions with parents are held around every 4 completed sessions with the child. These sessions are paid sessions as well.
